One of the most heavily debated topics among breast augmentation patients is whether saline or silicone implants will give you the best breast augmentation results. Currently, silicone implants dominate the market as more and more women feel that silicone can create a better appearance and more natural breast texture than saline. Here is a closer look at some of the advantages of silicone.
Texture
Silicone implants are filled with a cohesive silicone gel that was designed to mimic the feel or viscosity of natural breast tissue as closely as possible. This makes silicone an excellent implant option for most augmentation candidates, especially women with very little existing breast tissue who may be concerned about the implant being discernable through their skin. The unique silicone texture also results in a reduced chance of rippling as compared to saline.
Shape
Silicone implants come in a range of shapes to suit your augmentation preferences. Like saline, silicone implants can be round. However, the newest generation of silicone implants, commonly called gummy bear implants, is formed in a teardrop shape to resemble the natural slope of the breast. These options provide women with a range of choices for creating their desired look.
Advantages of Each
While silicone implants offer some distinct benefits, augmentation candidates should keep in mind that beautiful results can be created with either saline or silicone implants in the right patient, and with the right surgeon. Some women who are updating breast implants for an improved appearance choose to swap out their implant type for an alternate option, while others remain happy with their first choice long-term.
