There’s a new option for breast augmentation : Gummy bear implants. The recent FDA approval of the Natrelle 410 Highly Cohesive Anatomically Shaped Silicone-Filled Breast Implant from Allergan (also known as ‘form stable’ implants) offers women several benefits over traditional saline or silicone implants.
Impressive Results
Gummy bear implants have been in use throughout Europe for several years already, and are preferred by many patients for several reasons. First, the firmer silicone gel allows these implants to better hold their shape, making them less susceptible to pressure from chest muscles and breast tissue, as well as better resisting gravity. The shape-holding quality of form stable implants makes them particularly suitable for reconstructive surgery, or for use in women who have very little natural breast tissue.
The potential for rippling or folds in the implant shell is also lessened when using the form-stable implants; in saline and standard silicone implants, weaknesses along the folds are often responsible for leaks or ruptures.
Women choosing form stable implants and their surgeons have both expressed that the gummy bear implants feel firmer, more like natural breast tissue than either saline or silicone.
Loving Your Look
While the fans of gummy bear implants have nothing but good things to say, that doesn’t mean they’re right for everyone. Although the firmer texture of the implants is often listed as one of the primary benefits, some women think they are too firm to be comfortable or to feel real, and prefer traditional implants for their breast augmentation.
In the end, just like any cosmetic procedure, choosing the right implants really comes down to what will look best on your body.
