With beach season in effect nearly year-round in Florida, laser hair removal is one of our most frequently requested procedures. While laser hair removal can safely and effectively eliminate unwanted hair in both men and women, that doesn’t mean it’s the right solution for everyone.
Technological Limitations
The way laser hair removal works is by aiming focused light energy at the hair, which is then absorbed by the follicle. The follicle is damaged enough that regrowth is rendered impossible. However, this can only occur during a hair’s growth cycle; since individual hairs have staggered growth periods, hair reduction over an area of the body often takes several sessions.
Since the pigmentation in the hair follicle is responsible for absorbing the laser energy, hair that is naturally lighter in color may be more difficult to treat laser hair removal. Some lasers are more effective at targeting blonde, red or grey hair than others, although results still may not be as impressive as they would be on a patient with light skin and dark hair.
Contrast between the skin and the hair is an important contributing factor to getting great results, so avoid tanning either before or after your treatment sessions.
The Best Results
The best results from laser hair removal are seen when patients maintain realistic expectations. After several sessions from our Tampa med spa, you should see a noticeable improvement in hair density and thickness. In most cases, this will be permanent, although some patients may need a few extra treatments. The end result will be a dramatic reduction in unwanted hair, from virtually anywhere on the face or body.
