The One-Two-Three Punch of the Tummy Tuck

Tummy Tuck

Tummy Tuck If you were to guess which cosmetic procedure tends to have the highest satisfaction rating, you might choose breast augmentation or perhaps facelift surgery.  While it’s true that most breast and face surgery patients are happy with their results, the winner in the ratings contest is almost always the tummy tuck.  New York women and men tell us again and again how pleased they are with their new physiques following tummy tuck surgery.

The reason abdominoplasty delivers such satisfying results is that it addresses not one or two, but three issues patients simply can’t fix on their own.  These are:

Loose skin:  Saggy abdominal skin is a problem suffered by nearly all weight loss patients, many post-pregnancy moms and the occasional man or woman with poor skin tone courtesy of Mother Nature.  Managing extra skin around the torso can pose huge challenges ranging from rashes to ill fitting clothes to the inability to exercise.  A tummy tuck is the only way to banish the excess skin and allow the slim torso underneath to emerge.

Lax muscles:  Mainly an issue for women who have gone through pregnancy, the loss of muscle tone is another issue only surgery can fix.  It’s quite common for the abdominal muscles to become weakened or even separated during pregnancy, a condition called diastasis recti.  For most women, exercise can’t make a difference.  In fact, vigorous exercise can even make things worse.  A key part of most tummy tuck procedures is careful repair of the impacted muscles, enabling the surrounding tissues to lie flat again.

Fat pockets:  Nearly every tummy tuck involves a touch of liposuction to remove stubborn pockets of fat dieting can’t touch.  Each person has his or her own unique body structure, including the way fat is distributed.  Most people have at least one area that sports an overabundance of fat cells.  For men, the problem is often love handles.  For women, small tummy “pooches” are common.  When a patient elects abdominoplasty to tighten skin and muscles, it’s a perfect opportunity to blast persistent fat deposits as well.

Another reason the average abdominoplasty patient is so tickled with their appearance after surgery is that most try to shape up on their own and eventually discover their efforts are futile.  Often the moms we work with do their best to regain their figure through a diet and exercise program, only to realize limited results.  And we have consulted with many weight loss patients who have already given their all to losing the pounds, then feel devastated as they begin to see how excess skin conceals their accomplishments.

That’s why we can honestly say that performing a tummy tuck for a New York resident is satisfying for us as well as for the patient.  It’s not just our patients who rate the procedure highly—we do as well!
