Men make up about 5-10% of all the people who have cosmetic procedures in any given year. Given that men are roughly half the population, that means there’s a long way to go before men are having their “fair share” of cosmetic treatments.
That said, the men who have had at least one cosmetic treatment are part of a growing trend. It’s very acceptable for men to go under the knife, have injectable treatments, or choose laser skincare. More importantly, these treatments can have the same positive effects on self-esteem and mental wellness that they do for the many women who have them each year.
So what types of treatments are most popular for men? At the Michigan Center for Cosmetic Services, these 5 treatments are most in-demand.
Hair Restoration
Men have several hair loss treatments available, ranging from over-the-counter options to rather involved surgical procedures. If Rogaine or other non-invasive options haven’t delivered results, and you are not ready to consider a surgical procedure such as NeoGraft®, we offer additional treatments to consider.
- PRP Injections – Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) has been shown to encourage natural healing. By drawing a small amount of blood, isolating the plasma, preparing the plasma for injection, and then injecting the plasma into the sub-dermal tissues of the scalp, we are able to encourage a more healthy environment for hair growth. The treatment can stimulate hair follicles, with results being seen in as little as 1 to 3 months.
- Tricomin Hair Products – We have seen many patients enjoy thicker and healthier-looking hair with regular and proper use of these scientifically formulated products. Tricomin uses a blend of peptides, copper, amino acids, and proteins like keratin to nourish the scalp and the hair follicles, enriching the appearance of existing hair and helping to prevent hair loss. Improved hair quality can be seen in as little as 2 to 3 weeks.
Skin Rejuvenation
While there are many treatments that achieve skin resurfacing – such as chemical peels or microdermabrasion – we prefer the deeper rejuvenation made possible by Morpheus8 radiofrequency microneedling. The radiofrequency technology reaches into the skin’s deeper tissue layers to encourage collagen production, while microneedling further benefits tissue closer to the skin’s surface. This dual-action approach to rejuvenation can make a significant difference to skin appearance and tackle some of the top concerns many male patients have, such as acne scars, enlarged pores, and aged skin tone.
Skin Tightening
FaceTite® is one of the top treatments at our practice, because it delivers excellent skin tightening effects in the lower face and neck – the precise area where many men would like to see improved definition. owls, a double chin, and sagging skin can all be addressed with this treatment, and we can even combine it with facial liposuction to remove pockets of fat. Tightening continues for several months after treatment as collagen is rebuilt, and results can last up to 5 years. This procedure can be a great alternative to face or neck lift surgery.
Injectables
While most of the advertising for products like BOTOX® Cosmetic, Dysport®, Juvéderm® and Restylane® focuses on women, the fact is that these treatments are a go-to choice for a surprising number of men. BOTOX is a household name for good reason – it is extremely effective in reducing wrinkles in the upper portions of the face. Men with deeper forehead lines and wrinkles around their eyes can see dramatic improvement from BOTOX or the similar product Dysport. For injectable fillers, men tend to need these products in different areas compared to women. Instead of plumping lips and cheeks, the focus of a filler treatment is on treating lines and wrinkles around the mouth.
Body Contouring
Many people have heard about CoolSculpting®, but it’s not the only non-surgical body contouring treatment available. We have found that Evolve™ radiofrequency body contouring produces similar results with increased safety. In fact, this treatment’s versatility allows us to not only treat areas of unwanted fat, but also tighten targed skin and even increase muscle tone. This last benefit is a big plus for men who seek better definition for their abs, gluts, or biceps.
