When to Time Your Injectables before a Big Event

botox before wedding

If you’re looking for a way to rejuvenate your appearance without needing surgery and extensive downtime, injectable treatments could be the perfect solution. But even though they’re nonsurgical and sometimes even considered “lunchtime procedures” because of how quickly and easily you can walk in and out the door, injectables still need to be timed right before a big event.

Take a look at this guide to help you plan injectables before an event so you can fully enjoy your results—whether it’s your wedding day, a family reunion or even a big job interview.

BOTOX® Cosmetic

BOTOX® is a type of neuromodulator, which means that it works by causing your facial muscles to temporarily relax to create a smoother, wrinkle-free look. The treatment itself usually only takes about 10 to 15 minutes to complete, and you can go about your normal day immediately afterwards.

That said, it can take up to 2 weeks to see your final results from BOTOX, so if you have an important event planned, you’ll want to schedule your BOTOX injections no sooner than 2 weeks in advance. During that time, you may notice some swelling or bruising, which should gradually improve over the next few days.

JUVÉDERM® XC

JUVÉDERM® XC is a popular choice to help erase lines and wrinkles around your mouth and in your mid- and lower-face areas. This product contains hyaluronic acid, a substance that is already naturally found throughout your body, and works by drawing in moisture to create a plumping and smoothing effect on your skin.

Although you may see noticeable results just after your JUVÉDERM injections, many people experience some minor swelling and redness, which can take a few days to resolve. Additionally, it’s best toschedule JUVÉDERM injections 2 to 3 weeks before a big event, as it can take this amount of time for the product to settle into place and yield your desired results.

JUVÉDERM results typically last anywhere from 3 to 6 months.

JUVÉDERM® VOLUMA

Similar to JUVÉDERM XC, JUVÉDERM VOLUMA is a hyaluronic acid filler, but it has been specifically formulated to restore lost facial volume in your cheeks. Your VOLUMA appointment could take slightly longer—about 30 minutes—but you should still be able to get right back to work and other regular activities.

Schedule your VOLUMA injections 2 to 4 weeks before a big event to make sure swelling has time to diminish and the hyaluronic acid has time to settle into place.

JUVÉDERM® VOLBELLA

Like JUVÉDERM XC and VOLUMA, JUVÉDERM VOLBELLA contains hyaluronic acid and can fit within your lunch break from work. VOLBELLA is specifically used for adding volume to and reshaping your lips. Since your lips are a delicate area and can bruise more easily than other parts of your face, it could take a little longer for side effects like swelling and bruising to go away.

For this reason, err on the side of caution and schedule your VOLBELLA injections 3 to 4 weeks before a big event. Your results could last up to a year.

Sculptra® Aesthetic

Sculptra® contains a substance called poly-L-lactic acid, which stimulates the collagen production in your skin. Most people see the best Sculptra results after a series of three sessions that take place over several months, so you’ll need to plan your first Sculptra appointment a few months before a big event if you want to see your final results in time.
