What to Expect at a Virtual Plastic Surgery Consult

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, virtual consults have become increasingly popular. Not only do they help to follow social distancing guidelines, but they are also a convenient way to meet with your plastic surgeon without having to get in the car and drive.

So what should you expect at your online plastic surgery consult? This guide will highlight the main components of your virtual consultation to help you prepare.

Your Plastic Surgeon Will Review Your Health History

Just like you would prior to an in-person consult, you will likely be asked to complete a health questionnaire before your virtual consult so that your plastic surgeon has a chance to look it over beforehand.

During your online meeting, you and your plastic surgeon will discuss any potential health concerns. You might also discuss anything you can do to better prepare for your procedure, such as adopt healthy eating and exercise habits to reach your target weight prior to your breast augmentation, no-drain tummy tuck or other plastic surgery procedure.

You’ll Discuss Your Plastic Surgery Goals

Online research is a great place to start, but nothing can stand in for actually speaking with a plastic surgeon about your specific goals.

Next, you’ll discuss which procedure(s) you are considering, your overall goals and what you are hoping to get out of plastic surgery. Your plastic surgeon can then better understand your motivations for plastic surgery and help you decide if moving forward with your desired procedure sounds like a good fit for you.

This is also a time to ask any questions you might have. Just a few you might want to jot down include:

  • Am I a good candidate for this procedure? Is there another procedure that you would recommend instead?
  • How experienced are you with this particular procedure? Are you board-certified?
  • What can I do to prepare for my procedure and optimize my results?

You’ll Discuss Risks and Potential Complications

Even though they may be rare and in a perfect world would never happen, risks and complications are associated with any surgical procedure, including cosmetic ones. It is important to understand the risks upfront so that you can weigh the pros and cons to decide if plastic surgery is right for you.

It is also helpful to understand potential complications upfront so that you can take necessary steps to minimize risks before and after your procedure.

You Are Not Obligated to Book a Procedure at Your Consultation

Don’t feel pressured into making a decision right away. Your virtual consult is an opportunity for you to learn more about the procedure, what it entails, whether you’re a good candidate and to ask any and all questions you may have. Then, you can take the information, think it over and decide if you’d like to move forward with your plastic surgery journey. You are by no means obligated to schedule a procedure just because you’ve had a consultation.
