Many women choose to get breast implants for a number of reasons, including improved self-confidence, asymmetry correction and much more. If you’re starting to plan your breast enhancement, there are lots of things you can do right now to prepare.
Not quite sure how to get ready for breast augmentation? Start with these six steps to stay on track for a stress-free procedure.
-
Schedule a Consultation
A big first step in your breast enhancement journey is to research a few board-certified plastic surgeons near you, then schedule a consultation or two to discuss the details. Your consultation should serve three main purposes:
- to see if you are a good candidate for this procedure
- to see if this particular plastic surgeon is a good fit
- to discuss details like breast implant size, implant placement and the incision technique.
-
Be in Good Physical and Emotional Health
Once you’ve picked a plastic surgeon and have decided that breast implants are right for you, it’s time to start preparing mentally and physically. Be sure that your motivating factors for getting breast implants are solely for your benefit and not anyone else’s. Know that while breast augmentation certainly can improve your self-esteem, this procedure isn’t an instant solution to underlying body image or mental health concerns.
Secondly, you can maximize your breast augmentation results by sticking to a regular workout routine and healthy eating plan leading up to and following your procedure. Try to reach your fitness goals in the months leading up to your surgery date to get the most out of your breast enhancement.
-
Arrange for Time off Work and Help at Home
Most women take about a week or less away from work after breast augmentation, but this can vary with each individual situation. Take enough time off work so you don’t feel like you have to rush back into a regular routine.
The initial breast augmentation recovery period is usually 3 to 4 days.
You’ll also want to arrange for some extra help around the house during the first few days after breast enhancement. If you have children or pets, make sure you have help lined up for their care while you take it easy.
-
Discuss Pre-Breast Augmentation Details with Your Plastic Surgeon
Your plastic surgeon will be an excellent resource to help you get ready for breast augmentation. Check with him or her about any prescription medications you’ll need to have filled prior to your surgery, as well as which medications and supplements to avoid taking about 10 days beforehand.
-
Prepare a Recovery Space
Make your first few days of recovery easier by getting a space prepared to which you can come home and get right to resting and recuperating. Pick a quiet, low-traffic area of your home and stock it with lots of pillows and blankets, books and movies and essentials like tissues and lip balm.
-
Take a Deep Breath, You’re Ready
Don’t get yourself so worked up over your breast augmentation prep that you become stressed and anxious. If you’ve checked all of the above items off your list and checked in with your plastic surgeon, you’re ready for the big day. Take a deep breath, relax and rest assured that you’re in the hands of a skilled plastic surgeon who will work to provide a smooth, seamless experience.
