With all the time we spend on the beaches and on the water here in Tampa-St. Petersburg, it’s no wonder that liposuction is one of the most commonly performed procedures at my practice. That’s a lot of time spent in a swimsuit, after all. How can you make sure that the results of your lipo will last over the long-term?
Making Permanent Changes
It should come as no surprise that the secret to getting lasting results for liposuction is the exact same secret to getting great results in the first place: keeping yourself in good health. Liposuction is not a solution for weight loss; the best results are seen on men and women who already eat right and exercise, yet have a few problem areas they’d like slimmed down.
Liposuction works by physically removing cells from specific problem spots on the bod. Those spots can vary from person to person, but tend to be anywhere that fat likes to collect yet isn’t impacted by diet or exercise. Examples include the inner thighs, the muffin top and the love handles, among others.
After the fat cells have been removed, they don’t grow back, making lipo a permanent procedure. However, removing fat cells from a few target areas won’t make you immune from future weight gain. If you go back to unhealthy eating habits or fall off the exercise wagon, your liposuction results aren’t going to be visible very long. As long as you maintain healthy habits by eating a well-balanced diet and staying active, though, you should have no problems maintaining your lipo results for the foreseeable future.
