Once you’ve decided to get a breast augmentation, you now get to choose from a variety of different implant and sizing options to help you get the most out of your procedure. Although you’ll want to sit down with your cosmetic surgeon to discuss these options, it’s not a bad idea to do a little research of your own beforehand.
Saline or Silicone?
One of the most frequently asked questions about breast enhancement is, “What implant type is right for me?” Both saline and silicone implants have unique benefits, although many women find that the jelly-like consistency of silicone implants tends to have a more natural look and feel.
On the other hand, saline implants require smaller incisions and don’t pose the risk of a silent rupture, which can occur with silicone implants.
Choosing a Size
The phrase “go big or go home” really has no place in breast augmentation, despite some stereotypes. When choosing the right size for your body, you and your cosmetic surgeon will need to take your unique anatomy into account to ensure that your results look natural and in proportion with the rest of your body.
Rice implant sizers, before and after photos and your natural measurements are all great tools to utilize when finding the best size for you. Keep in mind, though, that implants aren’t measured in cup size, but rather in cubic centimeters of volume, so bra sizes aren’t going to give you an accurate idea of what your breast augmentation results will look like.
Implant Shape and Profile
The shape and profile of your breast implants will also play a role in determining your final look. You can choose from high, moderate or low profile options and tear- or round-shaped implants to help you achieve the perfect results for your body type.
