After your mommy makeover, there’s no doubt you’ll want to get back to your normal routine as quickly as possible. But as tempting as it may be to try to accelerate your healing process, you will ultimately see the best results if you slow it down and give your body the time it needs to heal.

Real talk: your mommy makeover results won’t show up overnight. Use this mommy makeover recovery guide to help you gauge when you might be able to start seeing results and get back into the normal swing of things after your procedure.

When Can You Go Back to Work after a Mommy Makeover?

Plan to take at least 2 weeks off work to recover from your mommy makeover, though some women may need more time off. The amount of time you’ll need to take off work and other activities will depend on a variety of factors, including which procedures were included in your mommy makeover and how physically demanding your occupation is.

When Can You Exercise After a Mommy Makeover?

At a minimum, you’ll need to wait 2 weeks before starting any type of regular exercise routine. That said, light walking around the house or around the block within the first 1 to 2 weeks after getting a mommy makeover is typically encouraged to help promote healthy circulation.

During weeks 2 to 4 of your mommy makeover recovery, you should be able to gradually reintroduce exercise into your routine. Start with light, low-intensity workouts that do not include heavy lifting. Listen to your body and your cosmetic surgeon before increasing the intensity or duration of your workouts.

Around 4 to 6 weeks after your mommy makeover, you should be able to resume your normal workout routine. However, you may need to hold off on sit-ups and other exercises that directly target your abdomen if a tummy tuck was included in your procedure.

When Can You Go Swimming After a Mommy Makeover?

You’ll need to wait at least 6 weeks to go swimming after a mommy makeover with a tummy tuck. If a tummy tuck was not part of your procedure, you may get the all-clear from your cosmetic surgeon to swim closer to 4 weeks afterward.

Before you can swim in pools, hot tubs, the ocean or even submerge your body in the bathtub, your incisions will need to be completely closed. Otherwise, you run the risk of infection.

When Will Scars Be Healed after a Mommy Makeover?

Scars can take a year or more to fully mature, so don’t be alarmed if it seems like your scars are more visible than you would like at first. They should gradually fade and become smoother over the next several months following your mommy makeover.

There are a few things you can do to help your scars heal more efficiently, though. Stay out of the sun or keep healing scars covered up if you will be lounging outdoors, always wear sunscreen and follow your cosmetic surgeon’s incision care instructions as closely as possible during your recovery.
