Liposuction

Does Liposuction Technique Really Make a Difference?

Patients who are interested in having liposuction can easily feel overwhelmed by all the different methods and techniques available, each of which claims to be the best and deliver the most dramatic results. Let’s look into some of the different lipo methods available and whether one technique actually delivers better results than the others.

Laser Lipo vs. UAL

Some of the most popular technologies among newer lipo methods include laser liposuction and ultrasonic-assisted lipo, often called UAL. UAL uses sound energy to emulsify fat cells, while laser lipo incorporates the power of lasers. Proponents claim that these newer methods deliver superior results with a quicker, easier recovery period. Yet, there’s no reliable clinical evidence that any new techniques or liposuction equipment offer consistently better results compared to standard tumescent lipo.

The Gold Standard

For any cosmetic surgeon who’s spent a good deal of time performing body contouring procedures, tumescent liposuction remains the gold standard. During tumescent lipo, your surgeon saturates the treatment area with a sterile saline solution to loosen fat cells in order to facilitate their removal, without the need for lasers or sound waves. Sometimes called “traditional” lipo, tumescent liposuction has a long history of delivering predictable and quality results while preserving patient safety.

Although methods will always continue evolving in the world of liposuction, the artistic skill required to create beautiful, natural-looking contours with lipo cannot be overstated. No matter which liposuction technique you prefer, the surgeon you choose to perform your procedure remains the decision that’s most important in terms of directly impacting your results.

In the end, doing your research and working with an experienced cosmetic surgeon will mean a more impressive final result than can be promised by any specific liposuction technique.
