How to Take Your Nose Job for a Test Drive

Nose Job

We’re used to thinking of plastic surgery as having a permanent impact. Once you undergo your rhinoplasty procedure, there’s no changing the results (except with another rhinoplasty procedure). That’s true for most plastic surgery procedures. The effects are effectively permanent. That’s why knowing how to take your nose job for a test drive can be quite beneficial.

Learning How to Take Your Nose Job for a Test Drive

There are a couple of reasons why we focus this discussion on rhinoplasty. First and foremost, it’s the easiest and most practical procedure to take for a “test drive.” That’s because the non surgical nose job procedure does a relatively good job of approximating some surgical rhinoplasty results.

Analogous non surgical procedures are tough to come by. They don’t exist for most surgical procedures. For example, there’s no tried and true non surgical tummy tuck procedure. And the closest thing to a non surgical breast augmentation test drive is the injection of saline directly into the breasts. Such saline injections only last for a day or two (and they can be expensive). That may change one day, but for now, let’s figure out how to take your nose job for a test drive before you commit to the surgical procedure.

Why Would You Want to Test Out Your Nose Job?

The first question we can answer is the why: why would you want to test out your nose job in the first place? The answer to that question has a lot to do with the nature of rhinoplasty surgery, which has a well earned reputation for being a, well, a difficult surgery to get through. That’s largely because the nose tends to heal slowly relative to the rest of your body.

While something like a breast lift or breast augmentation can take something like a few weeks to recover from, rhinoplasty requires a slightly longer recovery time. Indeed, it’s not entirely uncommon for swelling from rhinoplasty procedures to persist for twelve months (it’s not always at an entirely obvious or noticeable level, of course, but it can impede the visibility of your final results).

The nice thing about rhinoplasty recovery is that, even if it’s a bit uncomfortable and takes a while to complete, your mobility usually won’t be highly impeded. Even still, many patients want to make sure they will like the look of their new nose before they commit to a recovery process that could take up to a year.

How to Get That Nose Job Test Drive

If you want to test drive a car, you go to the dealership and ask for one. Easy-peasy. If you want to take a nose job for a test drive, well, it’s a little more complicated. The first step is usually to find a highly qualified and experienced cosmetic surgeon who specializes in non surgical nose job procedures.

During a non surgical nose job, a cosmetic surgeon will inject a dermal filler into the nose. The dermal filler in question usually varies depending on the practice of the surgeon, but it’s most often hyaluronic acid based (unless, of course, the patient wants a longer-term result, in which case a filler such as Bellafill is employed).

The changes to the nose are generally quite subtle. But that doesn’t mean you don’t notice them. In fact, one of the primary benefits of non surgical nose job is that you get to see the results right away. And as for the “test drive” part, well, the results will typically last anywhere between 12-18 months.

After the end of that time, your nose will be back to its original size and shape unless you decide to undergo regular maintenance injections.

Sometimes a “Test Drive” is All You Need

In some cases, a test drive is going to be all a patient wants or needs. In other cases, patients may keep “test driving” over and over, never opting to undergo the surgical rhinoplasty procedure. And if those patients are happy with their results, sometimes they simply opt to keep getting nose injections.

That said, there are a significant number of patients who use this non surgical nose job as a testbed. If they like the results, they often find the resolve to continue with the process and undergo surgery. That said, a non surgical nose job can’t necessarily “test drive” all types of rhinoplasty techniques.

Sometimes, there’s simply no way to preview your nose job results. That’s especially true when your rhinoplasty procedure is designed to remove or reduce volume rather than add it. If you want to know the best way to preview your nose – or, to take your nose for a test drive – talk to your cosmetic surgeon during your consultation. There are multiple technologies on the market today designed to give you a preview of what your surgical results might look like. So, if you want a nose job test drive, there are definitely ways to achieve that!
