Liposuction

Can Liposuction Really Give You a Six-Pack?

Tummy Tuck

Patients usually pursue liposuction to target and remove unwanted fat deposits, but some patients want lipo to take their results a step further. “Hi-def” liposuction is gaining popularity among patients who want the appearance of coveted six-pack abs. How effective is this procedure in creating faux muscle definition on the stomach?

Sculpting a Six-Pack

Patients who seek lipo to get a six-pack are typically at their target weight and are looking to fine tune their figure with lipo. In contrast from its tumescent cousin, high-definition liposuction utilizes either ultrasonic or laser energy to help break down and liquefy the fat. Through this fat removal (and strategic reintroduction of fat, if necessary), surgeons claim they can better accentuate muscular definition and create the appearance of more prominent abdominal muscles.

Choosing the Right Surgeon Is Key

Despite promises that these newer liposuction methods are more effective when targeting the abdominal region in an effort to sculpt a more chiseled, muscular appearance, the bottom line is that the concept of hi def lipo is ultimately a marketing gimmick rather than a specific medical technique or skill.

Because it involves sculpting the body and creating new dimensions for your figure, there’s an artistic element to lipo that can only be mastered through skill and experience. It cannot be stressed enough how doing your research and choosing the right surgeon will directly impact the results of your procedure. Be leery of a surgeon who promises massive weight loss from liposuction or claims that liposuction can help your cellulite disappear. A good surgeon will set realistic expectations and be honest about what liposuction can and can’t do, and that includes creating a six-pack.
