Breast Surgery: Which Implant Is Best for You?

The medical term for breast surgery is breast augmentation, more commonly known as a ‘boob job’. Arguably the most important aspect of feeling great about your breast augmentation results is to choose the perfect breast implant. To help make the decision a little clearer for you, there are a few points you need to consider before picking your breast implants.

Types of Breast Implants

When choosing which type of breast implant to consider, you have two options:

  1. Saline Implants

Saline is a saltwater solution of the same concentration as similar bodily fluids such as blood and tears. Saline breast implants use a smaller incision, as they can be inserted empty and filled after placement. If a saline implant ruptures, the liquid can be safely absorbed and passed out of the body.

    Silicone Implants

Silicone implants are filled with a silicone gel of a variable consistency ranging from soft to thicker. Because they are inserted pre-filled, they require a larger incision than saline implants. One of the great benefits and reasons why silicone implants are so popular is because they look and feel more like natural breast tissue than saline.

Choosing Your Implant Size

When it comes to picking the best breast implant size, try to be realistic with your expectations. Both silicone and saline implants come in a variety of different shapes and sizes so be sure to do some research on what would suit your figure and height. You can also compare before and after photos of patients with a build similar to yours to get a better idea of how your end results might look. Sharing these images with your plastic surgeon can also be helpful.
