Breast augmentation is one of the most popular cosmetic surgeries worldwide. Despite this growing popularity, there are several misconceptions about breast implants that may prevent interested candidates from understanding exactly what breast implants can do for them. Here are four things you probably didn’t know about breast implants that might give you a whole new perspective.
-
Implants Are Measured in Volume, Not Cup Size
Most women who think about the perfect implant size for them think in terms of cup size. However, plastic surgeons actually think about implants in terms of cubic centimeters (ccs) of volume. The next time you consider your ideal breast size, think about how many ccs of volume it might take to give you that extra boost!
-
Implants Come in Different Profiles
Beyond size, breast implants also come in different profiles. Implant profile refers to the amount of projection from the chest wall as compared to the base width of the implant. A high profile implant has the greatest degree of projection with the smallest base, while low profile implants are just the opposite.
-
More than Saline and Silicone
Saline and silicone are the two most well-known implant types, but implant options don’t end there. Gummy bear implants, also known as form stable implants, are one example of a new generation of implants that are made with a highly cohesive silicone gel and shaped to mimic the natural curve of the breast.

Results Can Look and Feel Very Natural
The days of obviously artificial breast implants are long gone—unless, of course, that’s the dramatic look you’re after. With modern development in implant technology and technique, breast implants can look and feel completely natural, especially when you take the time to find a skilled breast augmentation surgeon.
