The four common different types of tummy tucks are suited for patients with varying levels of contouring needs. Most commonly, patients can benefit from a full (or traditional) tummy tuck, but some individuals require even less correction. For these patients, there are three signs that a mini tummy tuck may be an excellent option.
-
If You Have Very Minor Contouring Needs
A mini tummy tuck is best suited for patients who only need a very minor level of correction. If you have a limited amount of loose skin and a little extra fat getting in the way of your perfect abdominal shape, you might benefit from a mini tummy tuck. However, if your needs are more involved or extensive, you may be a better candidate for a traditional tummy tuck.
-
If Your Skin Laxity Is Focused in the Lower Abdomen
A mini tummy tuck can only treat skin laxity that’s focused in the lower abdomen. If you have minor loose abdominal skin below your belly button, but little to no skin laxity above your belly button, a mini tummy tuck may be the right procedure for you.
-
If You Need Minimal Abdominal Tightening
If your lower abdominal muscles could benefit from some minor tightening to help you regain a firmer midsection, a mini tummy tuck should help. However, keep in mind that if your abdominals are loose throughout the upper and lower sections, or you have diastasis recti (fully separated abdominals), your cosmetic surgeon may recommend a more extensive procedure.
