Breast Augmentation

What to Expect during Your Breast Augmentation Recovery

Breast Implants

When considering breast augmentation, one of the factors you’re likely to want to bear in mind is the recovery process and how long you can expect it to take. As with any other cosmetic surgical procedure, this will involve some level of discomfort, but a little knowledge about the breast augmentation recovery process will enable you to prepare properly and aid your own healing.

First Week after Breast Augmentation

During the days immediately following your procedure, you should expect some level of discomfort and swelling. Rest is very important during this initial healing period, as is following your plastic surgeon’s advice about pain relief and aftercare.

While physical exertion should be avoided, a few short walks per day can help to aid breast augmentation recovery.

Returning to Work

The speed at which you can return to work will depend on the nature of your job and your individual circumstances. Those holding down a desk-based job may be back at work within 2 to 5 days following the procedure, while any vigorous activity or exercise should be avoided during the first several weeks of breast augmentation recovery.

Exercise and Breast Augmentation Recovery

Aside from 3 to 5 short walks per day to help with healing after your procedure, exercise should be avoided for at least 3 weeks after breast augmentation, particularly those activities involving the upper body. Providing breast augmentation recovery goes as expected, a normal exercise routine can generally be resumed after approximately 6 weeks.

If, at any point during recovery, you are concerned about any aspect of the healing process, you should contact your board-certified plastic surgeon for advice.
